LIMBO
Bachelor Thesis; a short extract from my BA.
By the time you reach the bottom of the quarry, the most noticeable change takes place; the blast of the outer surrounding cease and the city noise from the above decrease. By moving around in the open landscape, encountering environmental changes; the creation of a free movement appears. A movement you may not understand, control or change, but still letting your curious mind follow.
In the bachelor studio Architecture in the Contemporary, we were encouraged to work with digital modelling to let us experiment and explore new spatial methods.
The final task was to design a crematorium in
Limhamn quarry (Malmö), Sweden.

The project is inspired by small ponds mixed with limestone found at the site. The spatial idea of our free movement stems from our set of goals in the quarry that become less clear when new, unexpected activities or surroundings appear and change our directions.
The crematorium digs into one of the edges of the quarry and extends out to a raised and organic columbarium to strengthen the free movement and exploration of the landscape.
