THE ECLIPSE

Diploma; a short extract of thesis.

The project sets in Prishtina, Kosova, and explores the oasis of a park in the middle of the intense city. The different movements we created have led to the interest in developing architectural fragments of stops to activate the park and further extend the public use of the National Library, creating new movements connecting them two together.

A search for the path of totality,
also known as the movement of Eclipse.

The project is inspired by the Eclipse movement, resulting in a final proposal of eight unique fragments that act as activating points in the park. To maintain a strong movement and highlight of happening, the fragments will be temporarily activated by a modular system based on objects of arch pieces that emerge around them. The pieces relate to a grid system laid out in the landscape and fixed to the focal point: the Library, where the spatial design process starts.

This process-led project is supported by sociology and exploration of Bernard Tschumi’s play in Parc de la Villette in relation to Peter Eisenman’s methodology of different grid systems that elaborate with their framework to create a new spatial design of events and forms, later space of functions.

Sketches to elaborate form and spaces.

The elaboration relates back to Peter Eisenman’s method of letting spaces of forms be created without motives to later define and functionalize them.

Spaces created inside the archive of the Library.

The interior architectural fragments created inside the archive are later extracted and combined together to form fragments that will be placed out on selected areas in the park.

Different functions created around the fragments with the help of the module system of objects that could act as seating, table/divider or wall depending on the combinations.

When a fragment is activated, the tunnel connected to it will give access to the archive. The route does not follow the grid: instead, the curvature of the trodden paths above ground. Natural light is brought down by a stripe of skylight to lead the visitor. When the sun goes down - the lights along the walls will light up.
